Taking Stock and Giving It


Christian Stewardship Ministries (CSM) extends a great opportunity to all their donors. People have long enjoyed the opportunity to make charitable gifts of stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and other securities that have increased in value while bypassing capital gains tax that would be due on a sale.

Donors are allowed to use "paper profits" to help reduce federal and, perhaps, state income taxes. A gift of securities (owned for at least one year) can be deductible up to 30% of adjusted gross income in the year of the gift and any unused amounts may be used up to five future tax years.

Below is an example of the savings to donate stock:
