Multiply Your Resources
by Roger McClure

"...like the seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop-thirty, sixty or even a hundred times what was sown." Mark 4:19,20

Do we have a duty to multiply our financial resources for the work of the kingdom of God? In our financial lives, if we apply the values of thrift and diligent labor and follow God's plan for us, we are likely to produce prosperity. I believe we are to multiply our resources to spread the word.

Recently, there was a newspaper story about a woman who worked as a secretary all her life. She lived in a modest apartment and systematically invested. When she died, she left an endowment of more than $20 million to a university. She never earned a large salary, but multiplied her resources.

The tax laws and investment opportunities in the U.S. are structured to enable us to leave a large legacy to the church and also take very good care of our families. This is possible through direct investment, through multiplication of resources through life insurance and through many other techniques.

If you are interested in learning more about how you can multiply your resources, whether meager, modest or great, for the glory of our faith, call the CSM office at 703-591-5000. CSM will put you in touch with a counselor to explore ways to make this happen.

Bill Pile: Willing to Help

If you've been to any of the CSM seminars since the late 1970's, you've probably seen Bill Pile. He's the tall guy behind the materials table or the registration table. Or you might see him quietly checking the arrangements. Over the past several years, he has facilitated several of the ministry's Life Management Seminars. Wherever there's a spot for a volunteer, that's where you'll find Bill, because he's always willing to help.

Through CSM, Bill has learned the value of accountability and keeping records. When you chart your time or track your money, you find out exactly what happens to it. "Then you can stop it from going to the wrong places," Bill says. Facilitating the LMS has helped him apply more of what he learned in the course as he walks through it again with students.

At Truro Episcopal Church, Bill helps out in the bookstore and with the tape ministry. He serves as a lay eucharistic minister and member of the church lay eucharistic visitation team as well as chairing the adult education committee. An engineer with Lockheed Martin, he often finds himself trouble-shooting or filling in for others and providing technical assistance.

Although his parents weren't churchgoers, they saw to it that their children attended Sunday School. Bill credits his grandparents for their prayers and encouragement. During a stint with the Air Force in Thailand in the early 70's, Bill met a missionary family that encouraged him to deepen his walk with the Lord. When he returned to the U.S., he committed himself to more regular worship and involvement in church.

Bill and his wife Phyllis live in Woodbridge, Virginia. They have a son and a daughter.

Applause for our volunteers!!! Without them, CSM's ministry would not be possible. We cannot thank you enough for all you do. We pray we haven't overlooked any of those who have served so faithfully. If we missed you, please forgive us and let us know. And if you'd like your name to appear on this list in future issues, we would be delighted to have your help. Please call the CSM office at 703-591-5000 to volunteer.
